David Allen holds the
Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from The University of
North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Music from
Carnegie Mellon University, and a Bachelor of Arts from
Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In the spring of
1998, Dr. Allen studied chamber music at the European
Mozart Academy in Poland. An active freelance musician,
he has performed with the Greensboro Symphony,
Winston-Salem Symphony, and Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra
and has participated in recordings with the Keystone
Winds. He has performed in chamber music concerts and
recitals in Europe and the Middle East including a
performance at the Usedomer Musikfestival in Germany
with the Pan Wind Quintet. In July 2005, he performed at
ClarinetFest in Japan as a member of the Una Voce
Quartet. As a winner of the Annual Concerto Competition
at UNCG in 2006, Dr. Allen performed the Hindemith
Clarinet Concerto with the University Orchestra.
David Allen's teachers
include Kelly Burke, John Kuehn, Edwin Riley and Thomas
Thompson on clarinet and Susan Fancher on saxophone. In
addition to Radford University, Dr. Allen has served on
the faculties of Queens University of Charlotte and The
University of North Carolina at Asheville. Dr. Allen has
a strong interest in music psychology and his
dissertation was on the connections between auditory
imagery and motor behaviors in music performance.
